We've started a list of first names for a girl and a list of first names for a boy. For the moment we're writing down all the names that don't make either of us physically sick or spontaneously irritable or hilarious. We'll then narrow it down to an acceptable number by some yet-to-be-identified technique. We also discussed the family name our child would have. I naturally assumed it would be a "Duquénoy" but seeing that we are not married, there's nothing natural about that (this is me imitating Delphine).

Now you should know that I am a very traditional person : I strongly believe that our society has been built on certain values and principles over centuries that in themselves are not all incontestable but that make us what we are and how we live. One of these is the "patronyme" : a child takes his father's name, as does a woman take her husband's when she marries. I don't want my children having composite names. That discussion isn't over yet...
